In 2013, our founder left Canada to start a new adventure in China. While he loved Canada, he had become restless, bored, and needed a change. What was supposed to be a year abroad, turned into six years (and counting) of living and working in China while exploring all of Asia.
His first job in China was teaching English. He then began to assist with teacher recruitment. Finally, he became the manager of teacher recruitment for China’s largest provider of English language training, where he oversaw 20 centres in the south China region.
When recruiting new teachers, he heard their frustrations and fears about finding quality jobs in China. From his own experiences, he knew there were exceptional opportunities for teachers at schools throughout China. He also knew that some of the best schools in China were hungry for English language teachers. Yet, these teachers and these school weren’t connecting with each other.
He wanted to help by connecting teachers with schools. But not just any schools, schools that had a great reputation, that were quality institutions, and that would be the right fit for that teacher, based on the experience they were looking to have.
It wasn’t just about the teaching for him. It was about a lifestyle. Breaking free of the mundane, traveling to new and exotic locations, making friends from around the world, and living life how it’s supposed to be lived – full of adventure. He wanted to share that with others. That’s when TETRA Recruitment began. The name TETRA is a combination of the words Teach and Travel.
